Lou Hampers, MD, MBA received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 1987. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania where he completed both an MD at the Perelman School of Medicine and an MBA at the Wharton School in 1992. He completed Pediatric Residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Fellowship in Emergency Medicine at Northwestern University. From 1995-1996 he served as a general Medical Officer at Chogoria Hospital in Kenya.
Career
Dr. Hampers began practicing medicine in Colorado in 1999. He has had an extensive career in academic medicine, authoring over 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has received several national and local awards, including the Penn Pearls Teaching Award from the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Willis Wingert Best Paper Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Denver area Top Doc Award from 5280 Magazine.
After personal struggles with substance abuse, Dr. Hampers has been sober since 2010 and is active in Colorado’s recovery community. He founded and runs the Screening Adolescents For Evaluation & Referral program. Part of his own recovery has been an emphasis on health and fitness. His passion is motivating others to reach their own competition and longevity goals. He currently teaches indoor cycling classes at Club Greenwood, where his enthusiasm is described as infectious.
